Description

Exclusive opportunity to experience a man-made pollinating of Chirimoya trees. The exotic fruit tree Chirimoya is blooming here at the end of May/beginning of June. We are invited to follow the work of the fruit grower (likewise the owner) when nature is given an extra hand. All is done by hand at the fruit orchard we visit. Among Chirimoya we also find loquat, mango and guava growing. The guava plantation is said to be the only one in Andalusia.

The fruits grown here are cultivated and transformed into delicatessens in jars by the family, in their own small-scale production. We get to taste both their fresh fruit in season as well as the home-made marmalades and preserved fruits and learn about their production from plant to jar. For sure your tastebuds will explode at the taste of “fresh fruit in a glass jar”.

We continue a short drive to another family run business but here the delicatessens are bottled instead into dark rum. This region of Andalucia used to have a huge production of sugar cane after the Arabs brought them to Southern Spain. The business was very prosperous business until it was closed down decades ago and moved to other countries with less production costs.

Some years back this young couple decided to continue the old tradition of growing and processing sugar cane. They also decided to take it all one step further into making their own brand of rum. They are happy to show us the handmade production from cutting and pressing the sugar canes, to the distillery and finally the ready to drink result.

Needless to say, we get to taste their rum experience to understand their given International awards achieved for high quality.

We finish with a light lunch prepared by the owner who also runs a restaurant.
