The Vineyard at the End of the Road

Vägen till Vingården vid vägns slut
Rambla Huarea - ägaren

Description

The tour starts from Nerja and Almuñécar. Our first stop is the pretty coastal village of Torrenueva Costa with its long beaches and great surfing. We stretch our legs with a walk over Pasarela colgante de Jolúcar, a suspention bridge with parts made of glass – very exciting! From a ledge after the bridge, you have a breathtaking view of the sea and the dramatic coast with many great photo opportunities. We round off with a beverage at a local café before driving on.

The trip continues along the N-340 to take in the magnificent combination of sea and rock ledges. We pass through small villages and orchards, after about 1 hours’ drive, we arrive at the "Vineyard at the end of the road". The last 4-5 km of the road is what could be classified as a "lousy farm road" which is periodically impassable.

Bodega Rambla Huarea aka 'The Vineyard at the End of the Road' is in the part of Cumbres del Guadalfeo called Contraviesa. The winery is picturesque and parts of the building date from the 1850s. At the winery, grapes have been grown and harvested with gentle love and care, on a small scale for three generations. One of the grape varieties is the unique Vigiriega grape (white) which is grown only in the province of Granada. Today’s owner, Senior Miguel, runs the business enthusiastically and is happy to guide us through the entire process from grape to finished wine. We get to learn things about winemaking that you might not find out at other bodegas.

With a production of only around 8,000 liters of wine per year, the bodega proudly calls itself "the smallest in Spain". Their red and white wines are produced, bottled, and sold mainly locally and to visitors. We are invited to a tasting and presentation of the bodega's unique wines. Afterwards, we are treated to a home cooked Paella, which we enjoy together out on the terrace directly adjacent to the valley with the view of vineyards surrounded by high mountains.

Yard sales are offered, preferably in cash, but card payment is possible.

Full day trip approx. 8 hours. The bus departs from your choice of location: the bus station in Nerja (Estación de Autobuses Nerja), and in Almuñécar from Hotel Helios and the Aqua Tropic Water Park (Parque Acuático de agua salada en Almuñécar). Specify your stop when booking. In the case of larger groups that have a different preference for pick-up, this can possibly be arranged after our agreement.
